Week 5 Story

This week I really enjoyed making the Petcha Kutcha. I have learned that 20 seconds is actually a reasonable amount of time to explain a slide. I found that it was actually more time that I initially needed. I found myself going back so that I could fill in the slides with more of my voice. I believe that Petcha Kutcha was an excellent way to create my presentation: an autobiography. However, I teach science and I feel that 4 minutes is just not enough time to explain some things. I believe that it is effective only of used at the right time.
As far as the rubric is concerned, I decided to use Rubistar. I use this site a lot because it is free and I can customize the rubrics as needed. Although, generally I find that I do not need to make many changes.

  1. Hey Cathy,

I found 20 seconds to be long at times and I really had to write a script for each slide. I also agree that the pecha kecha keeps a presentation short and that works well with attention spans. I have used rubric maker in the past, but for this assignment I found it easier to make my own in google docs. Pre-made rubrics to save a lot of time and if you can find one that works for you its a no-brainer!

  2. I agree with both of you where I found that 20 seconds was long at times for some of my slides. I did let some of this time to be silent because when I was watching the example a few weeks ago, I felt that the gentlemen that was talking was rushed and I could barely keep up. I felt like his head was going to fly off! I think it's ok to not have noise all the time. Too much sound could be almost like filling up a power point with written words.

  3. I remember storyboarding my presentation thinking that I would be short on time when the truth is exactly what you have all said. 20 second can be a very long time. I think the 20 seconds per slide is good for certain presentations but like you said, 4 minutes overall is not always enough time. I think we can definitely supplement with other activities though.

  4. I was concerned about my ability to speak for 20 seconds per slide. I found that 20 seconds was about right. I agree with you, the Petcha Kutcha does seem to be good for attention spans. I wish that I would have written out the script for each slide. I found myself fumbling for words.
